Abstract: In the first part of my talk I will discuss several problems of contemporary Probability Theory, understanding of which led to beautiful theories and deep theorems, linking areas of stochastic growth and pattern formation, random matrices and combinatorics. In the second part I will show how combination of these methods led to the proof of long standing conjecture on sensitivity of macroscopic systems to localized (singular) microscopic perturbations.
