Random walks, amenability, and claBoundary Value Methods:an alternative to classical Linear MultistepFormulas for differential equationsssification of quantum groups

Abstract: Quantum groups are generalizations of groups introduced by Drinfeld, Jimbo and Woronowicz around 30 years ago. They are obtained by deforming semisimple Lie groups, such as the group SU(2) of unitary two-by-two matrices with determinant one. In the talk I will explain how ideas of probability theory and amenability can be used in to classify such deformations.
