Regular variation in the infinite occupancy scheme

Alexander Gnedin

10 June 2010

Karlin (1967) studied asymptotics of `small counts' in the classical occupancy scheme under the assumption of regular variation of the collection of frequencies. In this talk we shall focus on various forms of this assumption, and characterisations of the `generalised power laws' in terms of properties of big samples.
