Master Class 2003/2004 on Noncommutative geometry

The Master Class is organized by the MRI (Mathematical Research Institute). The coordinators are N.P. Landsman, I. Moerdijk. See also the MRI site.

There will be two or three days of courses each week (in Utrecht and in Amsterdam). There are two semesters each with 12 weeks of lectures and a break in the middle. There is a long Christmas break, also to prepare for exams. At the end there are about 7 weeks for the last exams and for handing in the test problem.

  • Reading seminar on Rational homotopy theory (following D. Quillen's paper, Ann. of Math. (2) 90 1969). Talks:

    Friday October 17th, 15:00-17:00; Ettay Weiss will give an introduction to Quillen's closed model categories. Abstract:The intention is to introduce Quillen's formalism of model categories as a way of inverting arrows in a category in a managebale way. Prerequisites: the basics of category theory and some topology and chain complexes to understand the main examples.

    Wednesday Oct. 22 from 16:15 till 17:15 in K11. Ettay Weiss will finish up his introduction to Model Categories.

    Wednesday Nov. 5 at 16:15 in K11. Either Ieke Moerdijk will speak on Appendix A of Quillen's paper (complete Hopf algebras) or Dmitry Roytenberg will speak on Appendix B (dg Lie algebras and dg cocommutative coalgebras).

    Wednesday Nov. 19, 14:30-16:00 in room K8b. Speaker: Dmitry Roytenberg. Topic: Finish up last weeks' talk about dg Lie algebras (appendix B of Quillen)

    Friday Nov. 21, 15:15-16:45 in room 611a. Speaker: Ieke Moerdijk. Topic: Complete Hopf algebras (appendix A of Quillen)

    Wednesday 26/11 14:00-15:00 in K8b

    Friday 28/11 15:00-16:00 in K11 (possibly up to 1/2 hour more) (During the last two hours Ieke will go over the rest of Appendix A, on complete Hopf algebras.)

    Tuesday 9/12 14:00--15:30 or thereabouts (the room is reserved till 4pm). Location: 611B. Speaker: Marius Crainic Topic: DGAs and minimal models.
