Bernstein Functions and Some Applications
Rene Schilling
(Dresden)
Abstract: Bernstein functions appear in various guises in several fields of mathematics such as probability theory, potential theory, operator theory, functional analysis and complex analysis. In this talk we give a survey on the theory of Bernstein functions and some related function classes (completely monotone functions, Stieltjes functions) and bring together old and establish new connections. Applications of Bernstein functions in different fields of mathematics are given, with special attention to interpretations in probability theory.
