Professionalization of mathematics in Scandinavia

Abstract. In this presentation, I will discuss the means and methods employed by Scandinavian mathematicians in forming professional group identities and research traditions. I am led to discuss the formation of professional societies and the attendance of Scandinavian mathematicians at conferences within as well as outside Scandinavia.
