Abstract. In Section II of Gauss' Disquisitiones Arithmeticae are gathered about a dozen of very general lemmata, formulated and proven in a quite euclidean style. The applications of these lemmata occur throughout Gauss's book and are pivotal in the build-up of his number theory. In some way they form the core devices that enable Gauss's structural style.
